During a visit to the hills, Muhammed was believed to receive revelations from Allah. The revelations were revealed to him by an angel named Gabriel who told him to recite what he had told him. He then believed that the final revelation was being revealed to him. One of these revelation was written down to become the Quaran, the holy book of Islam.
If you are to be a Muslim then you can't just worship Allah but you have live your life on Allah's teachings, the Quran. Allah sees everyone equal but this was not the case in the Arab Empire. There was only one group that wasn't considered equal, the slaves. Muslims couldn't be slaves so most of their slaves came from non-Islamic people in Africa.
